| Or "G'day mate!", considering I live you-know-where.
Quite embarrassingly, I first found this site when I was searching Google Images for the 'So there I was being Kubo' meme (also found a good Applebloom parody on the way though). Thought this forum didn't look too bad, nice and compact, not too big and unwieldly, so I figured "Hey, why not?". Plus I was really grateful to find an RPG site that doesn't seem to attack fanfiction RPGs simply for existing.
I typically don't like making these introductory posts, on other forums they tend to invite a ton of bland 'hello's from people I'll likely never meet again (keyword being other forums of course, it'd be rude to make any assumptions 'bout here when I've only arrived). Still wanted to make one anyway, as I felt uncomfortable about just showing up out of nowhere in the Planning section.
Actually, while I'm here maybe it'd be good to go over a few things people have done in past RPGs that've annoyed me: * Personal taste I understand, but I really don't like pictures or descriptions of overmuscled males or overly frail women. * On that note I don't like males and females always being assigned gendertypical roles like slow but strong warriors for the former and demure healers for the latter (though I find this more overlookable in larger RPGs where all sorts of characters can be expected to take all different roles). * I'm not a fan of using coloured, bolded or italicised text to denote what is just normal dialogue, what's so hard about quotation marks and adding '(character x) said'? * I hate it when people say 'You should join other people's RPGs so they'll join your own'. I know people want to promote community spirit and all, but that sends out a really nasty message of 'Only do good things for other people so you'll get a reward, not for goodness' sake'.
Sorry, I really hope I haven't come across as too negative in my very first post. I admit I can be a bit high-strung but I do try to be helpful and supportive of other players. Also should say that I'm not an RPG newcomer, I've roleplayed on quite a few other sites before. So if you see I've posted an idea and you think "Wait, haven't I seen that somewhere else before?" then it could very well be just me digging something old up (though right now I have a lot of new ones I'd like to try out).
My favourite genres to roleplay tend to be fantasy (when not blatantly Tolkienesque), shoujo-ai, adventure, crossover and basically anything light-hearted, upbeat and unique, though darker undertones bubbling under the surface aren't out of the question.
TL;DR version: Hi, looking forward to roleplaying here, hope to meet with you all real soon. Any questions, feel free to ask.

I can assure you that is not what happens here. I can't guarantee you'll like what we do here any more, or that it won't cause testicular cancer, but those are separate issues altogether. - Quote :

You certainly will not get the former. No. No you will not. I don't know quite what you mean by the latter. - Quote :
- * I'm not a fan of using coloured, bolded or italicised text to denote what is just normal dialogue, what's so hard about quotation marks and adding '(character x) said'?
We have a whole thing. Roughly: *Text* is action. <Text> is "NPC speak." "Text" is regular speech. [Text] is thought. No one has to use these, but I think basically everyone has adopted that form at some point or another. - Quote :

I think it's basically established that we do a lot of anime & Final Fantasy, for whatever reason. Occasionally your odd Cthulhu or something. - Quote :

Well, see no reason why it shouldn't.

| Shoujo-ai is lesbians.
Shoujo means "Young woman" (aka girl) and Ai means love, so Shoujo-ai = "Girl's Love"

| And I'm the only one who appreciates both shoujo-ai and shounen-ai.
Neon does to as he enjoys Bleach, he's just unaware of it. As damn near every fightan shounen series ever is packed to the brim with homolust.

| Harley, while you've been away, I've constantly been referring to the Lost Agent Arc as "Bromances: The Arc." I am quite aware of the implications. It's Script & Potter who keep denying it.
...You know, it now occurs to me that "The Bromance Arc" is a much better name.

| Neo's RP is your best shonen-ai place. Outside the RPs!
If we skip over Harley, because Harley somehow does it well, we can start by discussing Script's odd obsession with Neon.
I didn't just say this to make him rage on the thread, either. Probably.
Also, welcome. | |

Not gonna lie. I stopped reading, tabbed over, and tested this. We come up as the second, fourth, and fifth image... odd. - Quote :

There are not a lot of us, so you'll run into the regulars often enough. Also, you will not get hello's, you'll get, well, you saw what you got. - Quote :

You'll find almost literally the opposite here. - Quote :

This is also something of a... what is the term... subverted trope. I play a character named Mortal who is the stereotypical tank, but female. Neo has his share as well, most notably Euryale. All in all, no worries here. - Quote :

People here will usually do things just to fuck someone else over. Most of the users here are assholes. That aside, you don't have to worry about anything like that. Though I will say I was dragged into a couple of RPs (read : all of them save for FFT), that was for different reasons. - Quote :

Not negative enough actually. I really can't stress how much the users here are assholes. I have not read any post past this one yet (replying in order) but I can only assume I've been insulted about 3 times, despite not even being on in a few days. - Quote :

Most things are adventure, pretty sure x-over is frowned upon, light-hearted happens often, but your mileage may vary on that. Upbeat is a bit of a stretch, an dark undertones are almost always going to be present in the RPs. - Neo Bahamut wrote:

Shoujo means "Young woman" (aka girl) and Ai means love, so Shoujo-ai = "Girl's Love" 'Tis lesbians' is a better explanation. As is 'fancy way to say yuri'. - Neo Bahamut wrote:

Averted Trope. A subversion is when it LOOKS like you're going to get that Trope, but you don't. An Aversion is when that Trope could be expected, but it doesn't happen, nor is it indicated that it ever would. The couple times Thiera has known martial arts would be a subversion, because Thiera is usually The Medic/Magic Chick. - Quote :

I didn't like Lord of the Rings, so. As for Cthulhu, it was before your time. Maybe even on the other forum. We DID kind of make a mess of it, having never done anything like that before, but I have different plans for the next time it comes up.

| Personally I have nothing against Tolkien himself, the whole History Of Middle-Earth was more a worldbuilding exercise than a storytelling one which I have to respect, same reason I like Lawrence Miles' works.
My real problem is more with the countless imitators he inspired and the people who don't seem to register that fantasy is a far more expansive genre than just 'Medieval european elves'n'dwarves'.

| It's understandable. Medieval Europe is a pretty good setting. Most people have a passing familiarity with it & the feudalistic structure lends itself to a lot of dramatic world-changing conflicts. Add some magic & monsters to that, & you got yourself a successful fantasy RP.
That said, it is too prevelent. Something like, say, Byzantium would be a good, unique setting. But who knows enough about that to make an RP about it?
Also, it's worth noting that Golden Age takes place in the modern age.
