Waiting to Die

Astarte deals with her phone and cautiously tries to take a seat on one of the horrible couches.

*Aside from being uncomfortable due to a few broken springs & being older than the 1st world war, nothing is wrong with the couch. Schreiber sits on the other couch as Eve presumably makes her lone way into the bedroom.*

<If you can't see what's going on in another room, make sure to at least listen for changes. You never know when someone or something is waiting to ambush you.>

*Though it's the middle of the day, due to the covered up windows, it might as well be dusk in the cabin. True to Schreiber's word, there's a small section of wall near the end table that seems to have been roughly cut out, a generic power outlet fitted into the hole. As is standard, there are 2 jacks, so both can go in.*

*Tirea goes to watch Eve plug her shit in, then they both head back in and sit on one of the couches*

Astarte's head drooped as she had trouble staying awake. She mumbled, "What now...?"

*Schreiber heads over to the window, peeling the covering back slightly & peeking out.*

<It's going to snow soon. We'd best search for something to eat. We'll cover more ground if we split up. Do you all know how to whistle?>

*Tirea nods, but Eve looks concerned*

Eve:<Are you sure we shouldn't just split into groups of two? I don't think any of us really want to be all alone out there.>

"That sounds kind of insane," Astarte suggested.

Schreiber<You won't survive the beasts for very long if you don't find something to eat. No less than 2 groups.>

"Fuck that..." Astarte whispered under a sigh. "Will we go now?"

*Tirea stands up, followed by Eve*

Tirea:<I'll go with you, Astarte. If that's alright...>

*Schreiber opens the door & heads out.*

"I don't know why you want to, but okay," Astarte rose.

*Eve follows directly, while Tirea waits for Astarte*

Tirea:<It's better than going alone, right?>

OOC: I'm goin' somewhere with this, I swear.

*Out in the woods, they begin to hear the familiar sounds of someone else stomping around in the underbrush.*

*Schreiber holds up a hand to stop Eve & stares intently into the bushes.*

Sch<Did you hear that?>

*Eve nods curtly, staring in the direction of the noise*

*Tirea freezes in place and points in the direction of the noise*

Astarte stopped still to listen, with no further plan.

<(...It's pretty far away. Let's circle back to the mill. Take large, slow steps, it's quieter.)>

L"Are you sure there's anything out here?"

V"We should be there soon. Look, it's been a while since I've been there, get off my back! No one's making you follow me, y'know!"

L"And let you & Schreiber out of my sight? Not a chance."

*Tirea looks at Astarte, then back towards the noise. She speaks in a soft voice*

Tirea:<(We're over here!)>

*Eve nods again and does just that*

"Tch!" Astarte hissed at Tirea and slapped her on the shoulder.

*As the voices & footsteps keep on, they get lower, as if moving in the direction of the mill.*

V"I think I hear the river this way."

L"Great, then we'll only have to climb a mountain. Assuming we didn't already pass it, of course."

V"You could always try to find it yourself. Surprised you didn't stab me already, you psycho bitch."

L"Don't give me any ideas."

*With the mill in sight, Schreiber stops again, ducking into the bushes.*

Schreiber<(The steps are coming this way. I think I hear voices, too.)>

*Tirea looks at Astarte, confused. She mouths "what"*

*Evd follows Schreiber, hiding in the bushes as well*

"How do we know it's really them?" Astarte whispered.

*The voices become faint to the point of being unintelligible.*

*As the voices approach the cabin, they become clearer. After hearing them, Schreiber takes out her list. "Lilith Psyche" & "Vanessa Johnson" are still on it, but she still peers out of the bushes suspiciously. Unsurprisingly, the other Psyche sister has vanished from said list*

V"What makes you think anyone will even trust you anymore? You attacked whatshername, not to mention how many people your poor decisions got killed."

L"What's the worst that could happen? Schreiber shoots me? Nothing is worse than knowing that thing has Thiera now."

V"What makes you think it was just her? For all we know, we're all that's left. And it's all your fault. You let Ira tag along with you. That's how they knew where to find you. He was outnumbered, you could've stopped him."

*Tirea freezes, then whispers back*

<(We need to get back and warn the others.)>

*Eve looks down at the ground, hands shaking slightly*

"Let's just wait inside the cabin," Astarte whispered and tugged Tirea's sleeve.
