Waiting to Die

*Schreiber watches suspiciously. Vanessa just looks around at all of them.*

*Eve looks at Vanessa*

Eve:<Is your food ready to eat?>

V"What? The stuff on the stove is obviously ready, if that's what you're on about. It boiled over & everything."

Schreiber<Still, I would heed Lilith's warning, & not touch it directly.>

*Tirea turns the stove all the way off*

Tirea:<Unless you brought plates, we'll need to wait for this stuff to cool down. It's still going to be a while.>

OOC: I finally posted.

*Those who eat canned food, do so, those who don't, go to bed hungry. As there are only 2 bedrooms, with Schreiber and Vanessa in the master, everyone else either has to huddle in the guest bed or wherever.Throughout the night, the wind builds & beats against the cabin. Schreiber had long since stacked firewood against the door to keep it from blowing open. The temperature continues to drop, & by the morning, everyone's fingers are starting to turn weird colors. Schreiber gets up early & proceeds to heat more cans for breakfast.*

Astarte emerged from the 'guest' room, arms pulled inside her top and hugged so that her fingers were warmed under her arms.

*Eve and Tirea emerge from the guest room, Eve sticking her hands in her coat pockets to keep them warm, while Tirea blows on her hands and rubs them together*

Tirea:<Everyone still with us?>

Eve:<...It appears that way.>

*Vanessa totters out groggily moments later, adjusting her glasses & bumping into Tirea.*

V"Hey, watch it!"

*Tirea shrugs and steps away from Vanessa*

Astarte glared at Vanessa but kept her mouth shut, too cold and hungry to bother.

Schreiber<You should save your energy. It will be a while before night falls & we can make a move on the priest. You should probably also stock up on winter supplies while we're at it.>

Eve:<Shouldn't we make a plan first?>

"We could probably get some warm clothes at a homeless shelter," Astarte glanced around at them. "We look the part."

Schreiber<You have plenty of time for that. Not that I know what "plan" you need to sneak into a preacher's house & kidnap him while he sleeps.>

Eve:<...Why wouldn't we need a plan? Winging it hasn't exactly worked out for us before.>

*She looks over at Astarte*

Eve:<We can also buy clothes at second hand shops to save money. We should also try and get some camping supplies and more food.>

"We shouldn't have to buy clothes... technically we are homeless," Astarte shrugged.

Schreiber<It's some fossil's house, not Fort Nox. Even if it was, you have no means of knowing what the inside layout is, & you can't afford to scout ahead in case Ira is on the prowl. All you can really do is get your stuff around & hope for the best. But, by all means, go ahead.>

V"How are we going to get anything? Lilith & I bought up all the food we could before word got around that the cops were looking for us. By now, someone's bound to recognize us."

"We could steal from clothing lines... if anybody left their clothes out in the snow."

*Eve opens her mouth to respond, then closes it and looks down at her hands*

Eve:<...I suppose you're right.>

Tirea:<We can take the priest's food. Doubt his clothing will fit though.>

"Whatever. Can I please have something to eat?"

*As the hours tick by doing whatever it is they're doing, Schreiber keeps an eye out of the window.*

Schreiber<The storm is getting worse backing down. We should move now.>

*Eve rises from her seat up against the wall. Tirea looks over and rises as well*

Tirea:<Well, let's do this thing.>

"Lead the way."

*It takes several shoves by Schreiber for the door to clear the snow, which they can see is now coming down in flurries, dark shadows cast in the forest by the overcast sky. She heads around to the back of the mill, pulling out an old, gnarled tree branch*

Schreiber<Whoever takes the rear, sweep this behind us, to cover our trail.>

*Tirea reaches out to takes the branch, then does at Schreiber directed. Eve follows directly behind the professor*
