The Seven-Tier World: Dominion Of The Crystal Empty
PostSubject: The Seven-Tier World: Dominion Of The Crystal   The Seven-Tier World: Dominion Of The Crystal EmptyWed Dec 28, 2011 1:55 am

Storyline

As long as its people can remember, the entire world as they know it has been sealed away inside a giant Crystal, the skies outside may be visible but nevertheless will be forever out of reach.

Their world within the Crystal is one divided into seven enormous floating rings, with the actual lands spread across the centre of these rings to form plates. All seven plates have been threaded together by a continuous pillar that takes numerous forms depending on which plate it upholds, ranging from trees to towers to mountains to even more abstract things. But while its origins stretch far further back, this story begins on the high and aloof First Tier, where in a blinding flash of light something was able to escape from the seemingly invulnerable Civilisation that made its home there.

For countless years on end the people of the First Tier had made the very Incarnation of the World herself, who had first come there to use her powers to break the Crystal that trapped everyone, their prisoner. With her having just escaped, she now awakens on the Second Plate to find herself reduced to a mere fraction of her original power, and must return to the Heart Of The World if she is to be restored and complete her original mission.

But she encounters misfortune at every turn. Most of the people she finds down on the Second Tier simply think she's delusional, while the First Tier has been quick to recover and has now begun to infiltrate the lower worlds with their sights set directly on her. Not to mention all the rumours of dark and terrible being sealed within the very Heart...

Of course, that may not even be the worst of it. Is this whole situation really as she, or anyone else, imagines it?

The Seven-Tiered World

The world has been divided up into six Civilisations, one on every Tier except the Seventh. 'Civilisation' is simply a collective term for all the natives of that Tier, a single Civilisation can encompass several different races, cultures and even species. Highly prized among many Tiers is the mystical energy known as 'Source', a powerful substance emitted by the Heart Of The World, the very power that created the seven lands which can in turn be used for further supernatural abilities.

Many people use Source for menial tasks everyday, only those specifically working in the very nature of Source are known as mages, wizards or the like. But not everybody in the world is pro-Source, for example certain religious cults believe that if Source really is the power of creation then for mortals to use it is a sin, though other Anti-Source groups are more environmentally-minded and theorise that the Heart can only supply a finite amount of Source which human overuse could one day exhaust.

(The world has not been fully envisioned yet, players will be able to come up with their own areas and species just as they will characters, provided that like with characters they don't resort to godmoding or powerplaying)

The First Tier

Cold, powerful, and eternally secretive, the Prime Civilisation are said to be the most technologically and magically advanced people in the world. Although they occasionally do interact with the world below if only for trading purposes, they are otherwise strictly isolationist.

(Those sent down from the Prime Civilisation will form the main antagonists of the story, at least at the beginning. Still, as Prime Civilisation characters will by default know quite a few plot spoilers, be cautious about asking to play one)

The Second Tier
Mainly open countryside and grasslands, though every now and again a city or mountain range springs up out of the landscape. In contrast to many of the other cultures in the world, the humans of the Secundus Civilisation are known for being highly expansionist, whether this desire manifests itself in the form of eager adventuring or ruthless conquest.

The Secundus possess technology comparable to a steampunk world with even a few modern touches, and are the world's largest manufacturers of airships, seeing as how the Prime rarely have any need for them and many others simply don't have enough technology to match them, though they also build giant elevators from time to time that cut through into the plates below.

The most common method of channelling Source on the Second Tier is by creating music designed to absorb Source Energy. For most people this usually means playing a musical instrument, as only the highest-ranking mages can control Source through singing alone. To reflect this, many cities, villages or other areas in the Second Plate have been named after musical terms.

The Second Tier is where the RPG begins with Tyria, Knight Maiden of the World.

The Third Tier
For the most part the Third Tier is one huge ocean, with all of the Tertius Civilisation (at least the non-aquatic) tending to live on the scattered islands, with areas named after types of trees, as channel Source on this Tier is often done through the environment and through shamanistic ritual sites and tokens.

In contrast to the Second Plate which is mountainous in the centre but becomes more even the closer to its edge, the harshest areas on the Third Tier are towards its edge with the seas gradually sloping down the closer to its centre, almost as if they're draining into the World's Heart.

Speaking of the Second Tier, the Secundus and Tertius do not get along, the latter are most unappreciative of the former frequently marching onto their tribal ground. A few minor battles between the two have occurred, with the Secundus possessing greater technology but the Tertius more in-tune with the environment, but no full-blown war has happened so far.

As a part of this tuning into their environment, many of the Tertius have distinctly animal-like and may even be animal hybrids themselves.

The Fourth Tier
Baked nearly dry by constant exposure to the Heart Of The World which resides on this level, the Fourth Tier is nearly all desert, some sands even scorched bright red and unable to be walked on with normal footwear. Many landmarks here have been named after the planets (or at leat the memory of the planets).

Of the races of the shy and little known Quaternus Civilisation the most numerous are the Elementalist Tribe, who appear as intimidating colossi made out of stone, ice, pure shadow or other substances striding across the wastes, their main city built on top of the Heart itself. That said these colossi aren't how this species truly looks, they're just mounds of armour fashioned up from Code by the Elementals to protect them from the heat.

The Fifth Tier
A wilderness of frost and ice, by now the upper Civilisations have very little contact or knowledge about tiers of this level. The Pentus Civilisation are known for one main thing though, being the inventors of using Crystal Energy, i.e. siphoning supernatural power off of the Crystal instead of just using Source. While Crystal Energy is supremely strong, it is commonly regarded as a taboo art for the immense physical and mental pain it causes in its users. Places on this tier tend to be named after precious stones.

The Sixth Tier
Apparently a land of volcanoes and molten lava and terrain named after obscure weapons from the tiny amount of information that is exists about it. One wonders what sort of people the Hexus Civilisation would have to be to live down there...

The Seventh Tier
Each Tier going downwards has a slightly gradually smaller population than the one above it. This leaves the final Tier completely unpopulated, seeing as it was destroyed in a cataclysm all those years ago

Character Sheet

Quote:

Name:

Age:

Gender:

Picture:
(Anime images please)

Civilisation: (At first we'll try to be sticking to Secundus, but not strictly so)

Personality:

History:

Weapon:

Items:
(Basically anything they own besides their weapon)

Party Role (In-Battle): (e.g. melee fighter, caster, ranged fighter, healer, etc. Try to avoid having your role be too close to another character on the same team)

- Party Role (Out-Of-Battle): (Even putting something as simple as 'tag-along' is fine)

Skills (In-Battle):

- Skills (Out-Of-Battle):

Element:
(E.g. Fire, Water, Lightning, and so on. Remember that ideally no two characters of the same element should be in the party at a time due to gameplay balance)

Alright, here's the Knight Maiden:

"I am the Incarnation of the World itself, the bearer of its wishes and dreams! What makes someone like you think you're worthy enough to accompany me?!"

Name: Tyria.

Age: N/A, though looks about 18.

Gender: Female.

(Basically resembles Cloche from Ar tonelico II)

Civilisation: If any, probably Quaternus due to the location of the Heart.

Personality: Tyria takes on her role as the Maiden Knight Of The world with great gusto and sheer pride, however this has just made her arrogant and bossy. This is not helped much by the fact that, after being betrayed and imprisoned by the Prime Civilisation, she has become quick to anger, slow to get over a grudge and barely accepting of criticism, making her incredibly difficult to get along with or at least put up with.

Tyria ultimately comes off as a haughty aristocrat or even a bratty young child seeing the world for the first time (a severely scarred aristocrat/child), despite the fact that she should really know everything about it being its chosen Knight Spirit and all. Whenever she doesn't have reason to be angry or bossy (which isn't often, but anyway) she can be seen displaying a very childlike curiosity about the world and things in general and a bubbly desire to have fun, though her loyalty to her mission frequently prevents this.

History: Created by the will of the people to spread their wings (metaphorically or literally depending on the species) into the skies beyond the enclosed crystal, Tyria was created within the Heart Of The World and ascended to the skies to finally destroy the Crystal. But before she could she was captured by the Prime Civilisation, who held her hostage and drained nearly all of her powers for their own purposes.

It was only years later that she was finally able to escape, making her way down onto the Second Plate, though the exact memory of her escape is mainly a total blur as she was bursting with anger and all the powers she had left at the time.

Weapon: Her sword, apparently her own creation hence why she can be so possessive of it.

Items: Nothing else really, she didn't exactly have the time to stop and take anything with her while escaping from the First Tier.

Party Role (In-Battle): Swordfighter and primary melee attacker; despite being born from Source she uses very few spells, and when she does it's usually to enchant her sword with the light element (which can make for some very flashy attacks though). She puts this down to having her abilities drained.

- Party Role (Out-Of-Battle): As the World Spirit she's the entire reason for the quest to the World's Heart "Hmmph, obviously".

Skills (In-Battle): *Sword slashes and combos.

*Light-elemental enhancement and attacks.

*When she goes into a high-powered trance (or gets extremely annoyed), she tends to glow a bright white. She even says her fully-powered form by the Heart is essentially a shining white silhouette.

- Skills (Out-Of-Battle): *As displayed in her great ascent some centuries previously, Tyria possesses the ability to fly, though not for very long now in her depowered state without some back-up Code supply, leading her to suddenly waver to fall face-first onto the ground if she doesn't land in time.

*Able to activate natural Source Elevators created by the world to travel between plates (pity there's so few and most are in ruinous condition otherwise her journey would be a lot faster), and restore herself at natural Source Springs.

*Tyria seems to have knowledge of several mysterious machines and objects scattered in odd places around the Tiers featuring some strange designs. She insists she knows how to work them due to being the World Incarnation, but the energy around them doesn't seem to be a lot like Source energy...

Element: Light.

Miscellaneous: I was curious to know if anyone would like to create a rival swordswoman character for her, but if you aren't interested or can't think of anything I won't force you to.

How does "Source" work. You say that the people on one ring sing, while others use tokens or some such, can the singers go to the 6th ring, and still sing to use source, or will they have to adapt to the method used by that ring?

Also, I'd be willing to have a character be Tyria's foil.

"A poem for the soul etched in every droplet of water."

Name: Rondo Ausdruck

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Picture:

Rondo:

Civilisation: Secundus

Personality: Rondo is a charming young man who always seems to be smiling and jovial. Deep down however he is torn by the lack of knowing who he really is. He puts on a happy front but beneath the mask is a tormented youth who lacks direction. In private he questions the nature of his existence and of the world, the nature of the source, everything. He yearns for the truth. Despite all of this he can be a genuinely nice person, that part isn't a facade. In fact when he isn't pretending to be a happy ball of sunshine he comes off as a bit of a ditz or a goof. During these brief windows into what may be his real personality the young Rondo seems even younger and more youthful. Despite his seeking a real purpose in life he still loves cooking as a hobby.

History: Five years ago Rondo awoke on a bed in the village of Staccato, a small rural village on the Second tier. He had no memory of who he was or where he came from. When the family who found him saw that he had awoke they said they saw a flash of light like an explosion and after the light died down they found him passed out. He was told it must have been an explosion of the source and that he lost his memory because of it. The only thing he had on him was a pendant with a blue stone in it. It took him a long time to adjust to living in the village. He couldn't talk, walk, read, write, or anything. He had to be taught but once he found his pace he learned fast. The family who found him, the Ausdrucks, ran a small cafe in the village and so he started working there. Soon he remembered something, his name, Rondo. After that he found out he had the power to control the Source by voice alone. More memories returned, combat skills he didn't know he had. Two years ago he became the cafe's most popular chef but still Rondo felt like something was wrong. He hadn't gained any new memories. Now with a second flash of light reported near the neighboring village Rondo travels to find answers to his identity and set into motion his unknown destiny.

Weapon: Rondo's sword Candenza is a special sword threaded with source enhanced strings that resonate with Rondo's voice allowing him to command the source and bend it to his will.

Items: Carrying bag for misc. items, Pendant.

Party Role (In-Battle): Melee-Caster/Spellblade. Rondo is a hybrid caster able to effortless switch from backline defense and healing arts to aggressive swordplay and combat casting at the front.

- Party Role (Out-Of-Battle): Item caddie, cook.

Skills (In-Battle): Rondo is a masterful and elegant swordsman who is primarily a melee caster. He is able to focus on gathering the source to him whilst he fights then effortlessly finish his assault by commanding the water element source. His unique skill allows him to chain long strings of combos together in an unrelenting display of power. He is one of the scant few able to command the source by voice alone but uses the resonance of his sword to command it to an even greater degree. He has a few healing source spells as well but prefers to focus on close and aggressive swordplay.

- Skills (Out-Of-Battle): Rondo is an exceptionally talented singer and cook but his greatest skill seems to be his ability to resonate with the world around him to draw the source to him as well as locating vast quantities of source.

Element: Water

PostSubject: Re: The Seven-Tier World: Dominion Of The Crystal   The Seven-Tier World: Dominion Of The Crystal EmptyWed Dec 28, 2011 9:22 am

You are never alone in nature... are you?

Name: Grayson Ubier

Age: 10

Gender: Male

Picture:

Civilisation: Secundus

Personality: Grayson is a shy and gentle boy with some complexes that derive from his hidden canine nature. Due to his tribe's mentality, passed on to him by his mother, as well as past experiences of his own, he usually avoids contact with humans, and even when he does meet one, he has a very hard time trusting them (hasn't happened to this day). Despite this, he is actually very sweet, and loves anything that makes him laugh. Boku shares much the same traits, but is a little less anti-social.

History: Grayson descends from an ancient Tertius tribe of human/wolf hybrids to which his mother belonged. Each of the tribe's members was raised with a wolf or dog since birth, and each of them had a mark shaped like five fangs forming a five-pointed star, called a Caos mark after the tribe. During a less peaceful time for her kind that included their forceful participation in a battle against the Secundus civilization, she found a way to escape to the Second Tier, though she had to leave her guardian wolf behind. There, she found that prejudice against her kind was even greater, and it was only because she met a special man that she managed to survive. She fell in love with a human man (who had an estranged son from a previous marriage) and they lived together hiding in a mountain range covered in deep vegetation. Grayson was born from their love, and, loyal to her tribe's tradition, his mother brought home a dog born around the same time and raised them together. The dog was named Boku by the little child. The father, also loyal to his Tier, taught Grayson to play his two musical intruments and how to use music to channel Source. When Grayson and Boku were six, both of "their" parents were murdered in a strange incident, and the two of them fled, having been nomads travelling and living in forests, mountains and caves since then. As only his mother belonged to the tribe, Grayson's canine features aren't very prominent. He has very sharp canines and enchanced smell and hearing, and strong feelings can cause his nails and teeth to sharpen, his ears to become pointy and his pupils to constrict until they are almost invisible. These reactions are involuntary, and further development of these feelings can lead to the activation of his Caos mark. More information regarding this below.

Weapon: Sword (Inherited from his father).

Items: A brown leather bag attached to his belt in which he carries some basic supplies (herbs, both dry and fresh, some of the rare dry ones brought by his mother from the Third Tier, linen and leaf bandages, water, a fruit or two.) White round-bodied ukulele he hangs on his belt, on the right side of his waist, and a dark twig flute with green leaf and vine shaped crystals wrapped around it for decorative purposes. (Both instruments inherited from his father.)

Party Role (In-Battle): Caster (mostly). Grayson is a talented caster with some experience with healing magic.

- Party Role (Out-Of-Battle): Scout, healer.

Skills (In-Battle): Grayson will usually attack with nature-inspired spells and/or communicate with creatures and ask for their aid (mainly Boku, whose role is basically that of a support melee fighter.) Though Grayson possesses his father's sword and is somewhat skilled in swordsmanship, he doesn't like to use it both because of its emotional value and the fact he's much better using Source. In very very rare occasions, if Grayson is overcome by a powerful feeling (usually deep anger) his tribe's mark will activate causing him to merge (both physically and mentally) with his guardian beast (In his case, Boku). If this is indeed caused by anger, the result is a berserk hybrid being that will take said anger to the extreme, attempting to tear whoever caused it apart, and with great difficulty in distinguishing friend from foe. In this form Grayson has highly increased speed and strength, involuntarily infusing slashes, bites and roars with Source but unable to actually cast any of his usual spells as he lacks the control/music to do so. Grayson and Boku will revert back to their original form once they become calmer or the mark runs out of energy(Source) to feed on through them. This form is a lot more easily controlled by Grayson and Boku if caused by a positive feeling. Will hopefully learn to use anger to his advantage with time.

- Skills (Out-Of-Battle): Besides being amazing at playing his flute and ukulele, and able to control plants/communicate with creatures for all sorts of things (especially scouting and spying), he has a great knowledge of herbs and is for this reason a good healer even without channeling Source. Due to his canine features, his smell and hearing are greatly above average.

Element: Nature

Other Yeah, I might've gotten carried away with the length a little bit. Would've been much easier had I gotten a chance to speak to you on MSN or something.

PostSubject: Re: The Seven-Tier World: Dominion Of The Crystal   The Seven-Tier World: Dominion Of The Crystal EmptyWed Dec 28, 2011 2:26 pm

@Script-Z: Oops, may have forgotten about that part. But what I'd imagine is that there's no one right way to channel Source, it's all down to how a culture or Civilisation has learned to do so.

Also thanks for picking up on that rival foil swordswoman, go right ahead.

@Taegan: When it comes to Elements i'd say you shouldn't have to stick to the basic types, if you wanted to you could branch out into ones like Nature, Sound, Gravity, etc. Hope that clears things up.

Also, I don'tmind if anyone writes too much, just as long as we have few nice paragraph breaks inserted in there.

Now about Cello and Grayson. When examined individually both character sheets are pretty good and well-written, but when I examine them together I do have to wonder if they might be a bit too similar to each other, at least in some areas.

Let's see, both are silver-haired[1] young men[2] who are shy and reserved around others[3] but are ultimately kind people[4], except in battle where they both can show a much more aggresive side[5] (even if Grayson's is caused by animal morphing). They're also both sword-users[6] whose primary talents lie mainly in casting instead[7].

I don't know, if you think I'm overanalysing feel free to say so. Also I'm not saying any of the above traits are bad things, just that they're similarities is all.
I wouldn't know which one to pick, Cello was posted first and captures the musical feel of the Second Tier, but Grayson (in my personal opinion) has had more time and effort put into him.

What Dark said. We were developing them for a possible (eventual) sequel to Tales of Mysteria and have very often joked about their similarities. When I read the topic I immediately thought Grayson was my best character for this RP (Dark had commented on the fact Earth and Air were free.) and was kinda disappointed to see by some weird coincidence Dark had signed up with Cello. But hey, I thought about it, and thought I'd give it a try.

I'm relatively certain their personalities are a bit more different than the words "shy" or "kind" can illustrate, and we even commented their similarities might eventually end up leading to giggles, but regardless, I was indeed worried that might be an issue, and if you think it really is, I'm sure we(I?) can work it out.

EDIT: Edited the post a bit.
EDIT2: Another question I had was whether multiple characters were allowed or not.

@Taegan: As long as nobody goes overboard with them, yeah I have no problems with multiple characters.

Also I'm guessing the part you edited was about his parents getting murdered, though correct me if I'm wrong.

@Seraph: Well let's see this replacement character just in case.

"Instead of being alone in a group, I'd much rather enjoy true solitude all by myself."

Name: Noctis Talea.

Age: 20.

Gender: Female.

Appearance Noctis has fairly pale skin, a point of contention with her. Her hair is just longer than chin length in the front, and slightly shorter in the back. Her eyes are such a dark shade of brown that they look almost black. She has a small build, but clearly feminine curves. She isn't musclebound so much as toned, and tight. She stands at 5'6''.

Civilisation: Prime.

Personality: Noct has a calm and cool temperament, and a quick wit. Hard to anger, or move in any direction, Noct keeps her fears, sadness, and anger bottled up. In fact, to people that don't know her she may seem downright apathetic and indifferent. Underneath this, however, is a person of fierce loyalty. She also has a biting sarcasm to her that has a tendency to turn people off to her faster than her almost permanent aloofness.

History: [Would like to discuss the customs of the Prime before going into too much detail here]

Weapon: Noct's swords are custom pieces that appear to be incomplete, but are actually specially designed for speed and sharpness. They (the three of them) are hung at both sides of her waist, with two at her left side.

Items: A few black ribbons, a pair of black gloves, and a small satchel worn at the small of her back.

Party Role (In-Battle): Melee DPS [will expand on]

- Party Role (Out-Of-Battle): [Once again, would need to discuss this with you]

Skills (In-Battle): *Sword slashes and combos.

*Shadow-elemental enhancement and attacks.

*When forced to her limit she begins to darken, as if cast in perpetual shadow. This has the added benefit of obscuring her movements.

- Skills (Out-Of-Battle): *Excellent with finances, and money; shrewd businesswoman.

*A skilled tracker.

*An accomplished pianist.

Element: Darkness.

"'Right' and 'wrong' have much less meaning than you'd think."

Name: Astarte Cyprus.

Age: 20yoa.

Gender: Female.

Picture:
Spoiler:

Civilisation: Secundus.

Personality: Astarte is a shy, sophisticated and stubborn woman who cares little for those she does not know personally and is very cautious about her own wellbeing. In most cases she will retreat from a confrontation, whether it is because she is too weak or simply doesn't care, but if she is called a coward she will stand her ground even in the face of death.

History: Astarte wa born and raised in the village of Staccato, taking great interest in the source of the Source and the general workings of the world as she knew it. She never took much interest in making mundane friendships with those she could hardly speak to normally without becoming embarrassed. Her closest friendships were with her mother and father. She would spend entire days pestering them with questions about the world and trying the help them do their jobs. Alright, I'm in. Before I join, because fuck doing that at almost 8 in the morning, I'll tell you what you'll be in for, & you can suggest accordingly. I plan to use Venezuela. In BRP, Venezuela is themed after a desert fox. Depending on what form she's in, she uses either claws or butterfly swords as weapons. She controls sand. She'll likely be mostly the same, albeit with some of the Bleachier elements removed, such as transforming swords & implied cannibalism. As one of her things is speed, I assume her role would be assassin, or thief, or whatever gameplay term you're familiar with.

Edited to the new character. Going to probably need to talk because I feel my nasty "he makes characters that fit the main char position like a glove" tendency creeping in.

I was under the impression that lightening only forms through ice and water. A quick google search tells me that I may be right... So it makes some sense to be able to control lightening with water.
But if the elements have to be separated between water, fire, earth, electricity, air and others, then I will change it.

When you said you didn't know science, you weren't kidding.

Lightning is just a very large electrical discharge. It can even be spit out by things in space. If you had the ability to make any amount that could actually be harmful with wind, water, or whatever, you're better off skipping the lightning entirely, because you just made an invisible chainsaw.

There's also the matter of fact that "scientifically accurate" lightning cannot be controlled. It will just go to the most convenient location with an opposite charge. I usually avoid this problem with Roatha by saying that he forms ion channels that the lightning follows.

Well, saying lightening could "only be formed with ice and water" was quite stupid, looking back. But it would still be possible to use water to do it.

And I suppose that makes sense, about the lightening not being controlled.

Why do you spell lightning with an 'e'?
