Heathen Frolic

Ingrid looked at the captain and nodded, "Thank you for the explanation, but can I ask why you cannot fly over water? Is it an issue of fuel, or a detail in the machina I'm just ignorant to?" Ingrid took a step back and leaned against a metal door frame, putting her left hand on her hip, and letting her other arm hang casually.

<The airship works by emitting invisible energy that pushes against the surface underneath it. Because of this, it can't fly very high, & it can only fly above solid surfaces.>

Ingrid nodded, "Thanks for letting me know, but if I may ask, does this energy have any harmful effects? If it pushes against the surface beneath I imagine it may be harmful to fly over populated areas, and the energy alone doesn't sound... clean, not like magic anyway, it can't be healthy to be around it for too long." Ingrid said, gesticulating with her left hand every now and again. In all honesty, the part about the 'energy' being unclean might have been her casual mistrust for machina in general, but when growing up in the culture she did, that mistrust wasn't something easily avoided. "If I may also ask, you said this was the best you could spare, does that mean you have others doing something more important? How many airships do the Al-Bhed have, I can't imagine that you have very many out in the dessert, but maybe that is just my understanding of your situation."

<The energy comes from Pyreflies, it should be fine. We have many, seeing as we mostly excavate them largely in-tact. As for what the other airships are doing, you shouldn't trouble yourself with that information. It's not something you can do anything about anyway.>

Ingrid nodded, "I'm shocked that such machina could survive, and last intact for so long, but it brings up another question. Do you always scavenge for lost machina? Why not innovate, and create something new with the things you know now? I'm sure that the smartest among you know a lot about how these things work, why not try to adapt something new from it rather than recycling old relics?"

She noticed that she might have overstepped her boundaries a bit when asking about the reasons the other airships were unavailable, and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean any disrespect, I'm just a bit too curious for my own good."

Ingrid raised an eyebrow, "Pyreflies? I was unaware that machina made use of such things. I thought that machina was, well, mechanical. I had no idea it used something like pyreflies to run." Ingrid could not help but think of the ship running off of fiends, but that seemed unlikely, "How do you get enough pyreflies to power such a device as this?"

<Senthose ordered the airships to defend Home until he could give further orders.>

"What kind of 'further orders'?"

<He didn't say. As for how the engine works, follow me.>

"But you're the Captain!"

<We're in park.>

*He walks out of the bridge towards the back of the ship, opening a door & entering.*

*The Captain enters relatively quietly behind Hitomi.*

*Hitomi continues watching the gears.*

[Ark's dumb. Senthose... might as well be gone. There are others on the ship... I'd be better off finding out on my own, wouldn't I?]

[Stupid useless airships. Stupid stupid stupid.]

*He sits against a wall at a corner of the bridge and starts counting his Gil.*

Ingrid simply follows along. As she enters the engine room she notices Hitomi. Not wanting to seem rude, Ingrid takes a step closer to Hitomi and pleasantly says, "Hello there."

*Luna doesn't introduce Hitomi because she's busy gaping at the half-dead Sinspawn Ammes with pipes jammed into it that's powering the airship, which Ingrid seems to have somehow missed.*

Ark: <I need more. I wonder if that new chick has any.>

*He grins and looks around.*

Ingrid looks past her potential conquest and at the Sinspawn. "Huh..." She turns around and points to the spawn while looking at the captain, "So this is where you get the pyreflies from? How did you manage to catch a Sinspawn, and isn't it dangerous to have this under the roof. I thought Sin was attracted to its spawn."

*Hitomi doesn't seem to notice Ingrid till' she's gawking at the half-dead cosmic abomination. She doesn't look away from the gears.*

"Hello."

"Hi there, my name is Ingrid." Ingrid says turning around to see Hitomi still entranced by gears. "I would ask your name, but you seem to be a bit more interested in the workings of this ship... though I can't really blame you." She said, following Hitomi's gaze towards the gears. Ingrid shot her head back at Luna, and the captain, awaiting an answer to her previous question.

<Sin can't track THAT Sinspawn. Senthose was heavily involved in Sinspawn research back when he was still alive. He knows how to do just about anything with them.>

"I see. And did he sacrifice a town for it too?"

<No. He invented a device that tracks them down. We actually have it built into the ship.>

*Aside from the rest of the crew & Senthose's Fayth, he's alone on the bridge.*

[For what purpose would he want to track Sinspawn? To do the same thing he did that resulted in Luna?]

Ingrid quietly nodded as the info rolled over her. She turned her attention back to the Sinspawn, still a bit shocked by its presence, and a bit saddened by it. I know its a Sinspawn, she thought, but I wouldn't wish this kind of servitude on any living thing, fiend or not.

*He walks to the Fayth and stares at it.*

Ark: <Retard.>

*The stone just sits there.*

"Yes, I got it the first time."

Ark: <This is boring. What are the girls all doing in the engine r... Hoho.>

*He runs to the engine room.*

"Why is this one special, and why do you point to that one as if there are more Sinspawn aboard the ship?" Ingrid asked, a bit more interested than she would have liked to let on.

[She catches on quickly.]

<I'm just saying, were there to be another Sinspawn on this ship, Sin would be able to track it, & also that we probably shouldn't stay in one place for every long just, you know, in case.>

*He coughs.*

<Hey! You kids wanted to visit the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth, didn't you? Run along, now, no need to hold yourselves up on my account.>

Ark: <I'm here for the le--whatever it is you're all doing!>

Ingrid raises an eyebrow at the whole situation, That captain seems to be dodging my question, but I'm not exactly in a position to press him for answers seeing as how I practically just got on board this ship, Ingrid thought, a bit agitated at being left in the dark. "Yea, I guess you're right, I'm ready to head to the Cavern whenever everyone else is ready. Speaking of which," Ingrid looked around, "Who exactly will be coming along in this exploration party?" Ingrid counted herself, and Luna, and guessed at Hitomi's involvement, but didn't really know whether or not that was an accurate assumption. Just then Ark came into the room, breaking Ingrid's line of thought, "We're merely talking, from what I can tell anyway." She told him.
