Cabin in the Woods

OOC: Not related to the Joss Whedon film of the same name.

*Nero wakes up after the crash to find himself staring at the tree line. A sliver of sky is visible between the trees & the mountain, indicating that it is sunset. Also visible is a thick plume of black smoke rising into the sky.*

N"Ghhg...fucking head...well, that doesn't look good."

*He rolls over, noticing that the bus is lying on its side, all of its doors & most of its windows broken inward. A large gash has also been ripped down the side. The smoke is coming from under the hood, which is bent slightly outward. Hearing rustling behind him, Nero turns & peers into the forest. He takes a step forward, only to jerk his back at a second, much louder crunching sound, which turns out to be the emergency exit at the back of the bus being forced open. Euryale emerges with an unconscious Thiera under her arm. As Nero makes his way over, she practically drops Thiera on top of him. When he slips backwards, he notices the blood staining the right side of her head.*

N"Hey, is she going to be okay?"

E"I think so. Stay right there, I'm going to see if anyone else needs help."

*Euryale turns & holds her arms out to steady herself. She takes a few wobbling steps, because the wall above the windows is not designed for walking on. She slips & her leg goes through one of the broken windows, scratching her knee in the process. Nearby; Taiyo, Azuma, & Mimiru are untangling themselves, from where they ended up in a jumbled mess in a single seat. Roatha, who for some jackass reason decided to walk in the direction of the smoke, crunching over broken glass as he goes, passes a similar situation near the front; with Tirea, Monu, Eve, & Cameron. He picks up a branch about the size of his forearm, then looks at the crushed dashboard & lacerated driver's seat. Anyone still in the bus can see this by looking in the lopsided rear view mirror, but Stefan, who is sprawled-but-unscathed in the nearby seat has the best view.*

R"I don't think this branch did that."

E"Who cares about that! Is everyone here?!"

*Roatha looks around.*

R"The teacher & the driver are missing. Not sure about anyone else."

*Astarte, Hector, & Eduj had the worst luck by far. They had somehow managed to slip through the windows, & were now pinned under the bus. As it was held up by unseen rocks, it wasn't crushing them, but it was pressing down hard enough to make movement difficult. It was also dark, & stuffy, which the smoke didn't help. Every time someone moved above, the bus groaned above them, threatening to finish rolling over on its side.*

The three untangle themselves with Taiyo wiggling out first followed by Mimiru then Azuma.

Azuma: "Damn it all. This is a right fine mess we've gotten in."

Mimiru: "Shut up and get off."

Taiyo gets off the bus through the back followed by the other two.

Azuma: "Who's all missing?"

"Lord help us," Stefan whispered to himself, grasping the golden cross hanging from his neck with one hand and picking himself up with the other. He stared at the driver's seat and dashboard for a few moments, his bottom lip quivering.
Beneath the bus, Astarte had only just begun to awaken as Hector tugged at her shoulders and asked uselessly if she was alright. Eduj had both hands pressed firmly against the bus and was pushing against it with all of his strength, hoping that he might prevent it from crushing them to death.
"Help!" Eduj called out. "Three of us are under the bus!"

*They can hear some kind of muffled noise coming from underneath the bus.*

R"What the Hell's that?"

*Fortunately, Nero & Thiera have moved by this point, & so they aren't jumped on. Nero lays Thiera on the ground, where she begins to stir, then heads to the emergency exit & cups his hands around his mouth.*

N"Hey! See if you can find the class roster!"

R"Oh, that's actually a good idea."

*Roatha gets on his hands & knees & starts looking around the driver's seat. At the other end, Euryale is pulling her foot free.*

E"Just be careful, it's not exactly safe up there."

Stefan took a deep breath and decided to help Roatha look for the roster, and also looked for any blood or clothing around and on the driver's seat.
"Astarte, are you alright?" Hector's voice finally reached Astarte, who suddenly went rigid and widened her eyes. "Astarte, can you move at all? We need to get out of here."
"Help! Help!" Eduj continued to yell as he pushed against the bus.

Taiyo goes to check on Thiera while Azuma & Mimiru check around under the bus to see who is making the noise.

Taiyo: "Are you okay?"

*Eve struggles out, followed by Tirea, Cameron and finally Monu. Tirea and Cameron struggle up to the driver's seat*

Cameron:<Is there a first aid kit up here?>

Monu:<We'll meet you outside!>

*Eve and Monu head out the emergency door*

R"Huh? Oh, yeah, there's one tethered up there. Also a fire extinguisher."

*Roatha points to where those items are tethered to the bus with bungee cables. There are clips so that they can be easily removed. Meanwhile, Stephan finds a sheet of paper with a bunch of names on it. It's slightly crinkled & has a few drops of dried blood on it, but other than that, there are no signs of a struggle.*

T"I think so."

*As Thiera sits up, touching the side of her head & grimacing at the sight of her own blood, it becomes apparent to Mimiru & Azuma that it's way too dark under there to see shit. Meanwhile, an ember catches a leaf on a high up branch, & it starts to burn.*

*Cameron grabs the first aid kit and Tirea takes the fire extinguisher. Then Cameron heads out the emergency door*

Cameron:<Anyone hurt? I have the first aid kit.>

*Tirea takes a step forward to follow him then turns back to Roatha*

Tirea:<Thanks for the help! Should we get everyone and meet up outside? I don't think we should stay in here.>

*Meanwhile, Monu and Eve rush over to Thiera*

Monu:<Dang it, I knew we couldn't be lucky enough to get way without anyone getting hurt. Don't worry, Cam's bringing the first aid kit.>

*Eve smiles reassuringly, then looks around*

Eve:<I think we're missing someone.>

"I think I've got it!" Stefan called out, grabbing the sheet of paper and heading towards the exit. "The roster!"

Astarte suddenly turned her eyes to the way out, and began frantically trying to pull herself towards it. Because she was closer to escaping than Hector, he began trying to push her out ahead of him. Eduj continued to push against the bus and call for help.

T"That's good, now we have at least 2."

*After much struggling, Astarte finally manages to pull herself partway out. When a hand grabs Nero's ankle, he jumps back, shaking it off. Inside, Euryale pokes her head in the door.*

E"The luggage compartment is locked. Do you see the keys?"

*Roatha grabs the keys, still in the ignition, & tugs. But even when Euryale comes in to help them & they both pull with all of their weight, they can't get them out.*

E"It's no good. Better hope the stuff you brought on your back is useful."

R"...Oh yeah, definitely."

E"Come on, she's right, we need to get out of here."

*Euryale pulls him, Tirea, & Stefan out of the door, where they can't help but notice that the entire branch has caught on fire. As the fire spreads to the branches around it, it begins to crack at the base, & lean down towards them.*

R"Well, that can't be good."

Stefan was already intently reading the roster and counting the people around him, "We are missing some."

"Help!" Astarte cried out as loudly as she could as she made it partway out, still struggling frantically to escape. Hector continued to push her from behind, while Eduj's arms began to fail him and he took gasping breaths.

*Cameron runs over to Thirea, and opens the kit*

Cameron:<There has to be something in here to stop bleeding.>

Monu:<Look for pads or something.>

*Cameron looks for those in the first aid kit. If he finds them, Cameron presses a handful against whatever's bleeding. Upon seeing the fire, Eve and Monu get up and rush back towards the bus, while Cameron stays to help Thiera. Closer to the scene, Tirea fumbles with the fire extinguisher*

Tirea:<Anyone use a fire extinguisher before!?>

*Eve shakes her head, then listens intently. After a moment, Eve yells *

Eve:<Is someone there?!>

T"I just need disinfectant & something wrapped around my head. You'll have to do it, I can't see the side of my own head."

*Thiera looks over to where Nero is reluctantly helping some woman out from under the bus. Euryale & Roatha scramble back, as that branch is clearly about to fall. By this point, essentially all of the tree's leaves are on fire.*

Cameron:<Alright. I hope I do this right.>

*Cameron does as requested, first using the disinfectant and then carefully wrapping gauze around Thiera's head.>

<How's that?>

*Monu and Tirea attempt to spray the fire with the extinguisher stuff*

Monu & Tirea:<One...two..three!>

*Eve walks down the length of the bus*

Eve:<Hello?>

Stefan ran over to Nero and wrapped his arms around Astarte to help pull her out. When she came free, she found herself clinging onto Nero while Stefan let her go and dropped down to look for others under the bus. He found Hector's outstretched hand and began pulling. Meanwhile, Eduj's arms had become too weak to exert much force against the bus at all.
"There's two down here!" Hector yelled as Stefan helped him struggle towards escape. "Me and Eduj!"

T"It should be fine. Now let's round everyone up & get out of here."

*She stands up as Nero clings to her back & Roatha & Euryale walk up to him.*

R"Really?"

N"Shhh."

*After spraying half of the tank, Monu & Tirea manage to put out most of the flame, but the top of the tree is still burning. Also, the branch still falls on them. As a result, the extinguisher falls back into the bus, while they fall on either side of it.*

*Cameron closes the case and stands up*

Cameron:<Sounds like a plan.>

*Monu and Tirea stand up, with Monu swearing under his breath*

Monu:<At least we put out most of the fire.>

Tirea:<Yeah.>

*Tirea reaches forward, trying to grab the extinguisher*

Monu:<Be careful.>

*Eve rushes over to help Stefan, reaching down under the bus*

Eve:<Here, take my hand!>

"Give us a hand, will you?" Stefan said, looking over his shoulder at Roatha and Euryale while still pulling Hector out, who had grabbed Eve's hand. Eduj was now exerting no force against the bus and began trying to follow after Hector.

*As the bus is on its side, & Tirea was knocked over the roof or the floor, depending on where she was standing, she is nowhere near the extinguisher, which fell back into the door, which also has a big branch over it. Eduj manages to get free, save for his legs, when the force of the branch finally makes the bus give way.*

R"Shit, what do we do?!"

*Euryale glances at a plume of fire that suddenly shoots up from the engine, putting the trunk of the tree on fire. The top also falls off, setting the base of the next tree ablaze.*

E"Just keep pulling! And hurry!"

*Roatha does as instructed as Euryale takes the roster & looks over it, before breathing deeply & turning towards the forest.*

E"VANESSA! ARE YOU OUT THERE?! VANESSAAAAA!"

N"What are you doing?! Do you want someone to hear you?!"

E"Well, yeah, that IS the idea. Who would possibly be around here that I wouldn't want to attract the attention of?"

*Monu grabs Tirea and runs the heck out of there*

Monu:<Not worth it!>

Tirea:<I'm sorry! I just...>

*Eve yanks and Eduj's hand, trying to pull him free. As he runs back to the group, Cameron looks behind him to be sure Thiera's doing alright*

Astarte lifted her head off of Nero's shoulder and looked around to see if Hector and Eduj had managed to get free. As soon as Hector was free he had turned and begun trying with all of his strength to lift the bus just enough for Eduj to be able to squeeze out from under it.

Azuma and Mimiru join in attempting to free Edju. Taiyo tries using her cellphone to call 911.

*Taiyo cannot get service, but they manage to get Eduj free. Eduj's calves really hurt, but not so much that they're impossible to move. Likely, they are either strained, bruised, or both. The fire moves up the trees & to the branches.*

R"Can we put that out?"

*The fire backs into the bus as burning chunks of branch fall through the windshield & catch the front seats on fire.*

N"Yeah, let's not. I guess we'll have to go into the forest."

E"There's one path, but it's going away from here at a 90 degree angle. VA-NES-SAAA!"

N"Well, we wouldn't want to get away from the burning trees, & bus that might explode, now would we?"

Azuma: "No, I really think it'd be in our best interest to go. You can stick around for when the firefighting plane shows up, we'll go into the dark forboding forest."
