Cabin in the Woods

"Stop talking about bears, will you?" Hector said, and Astarte yawned, making a dainty noise and lifting a hand to her mouth. "The chances of a lone bear running about here and stealing two of our group are very low."

N"South's not bad. It's not good, but it's not bad."

R"Wolves, then."

E"Not to change the subject, but we need to decide what we're going to do for shelter. Did anyone bring camping supplies?"

R"No? We were supposed to be staying somewhere. Hell, I didn't even bring toothpaste, I was just gonna buy some if they didn't have any there."

Eve:<You can use my toothpaste if you need it.>

Tirea:<I have a canteen, some matches and some food. I think Monu also has some food.>

*Monu nods*

Cameron:<I have a flashlight. Now I'm glad we had to bring stuff.>

Azuma: "I think our options for shelter are pretty limited. Unless we luck out and find a cave. Until the bear returns."

V"Son of a bitch!"

*Vanessa falls into another bush, before Nero can sweep his flashlight across it.*

N"Damn it, it's blocking up the whole path. Now where do we go?"

E"Hold on a second, something just reflected."

*She sweeps her own flashlight over the area a few times until they see the glint again. She then squints into the darkness.*

E"I think it's a window."

*Nero aims the beam of the flashlight upward, exposing a thatched roof. Euryale continues looking around. Whatever clearing had been built for the cabin was now nearly gone. Bushes & thick weeds grew all around it, with trees just about right up to the foundation. The cabin itself was so small that branches from one tree could cross over the roof to intersect with branches from another tree.*

N"Well, it won't solve our reception problem, but at least it's something."

Azuma: "Disregard bears. Beserk hermit is the new thing to fear."

Mimiru: "Will you shut up?"

Hector gave Azuma a slightly irritated look and began to walk towards the cabin, turning on his own torch. Eduj and Stefan followed him, while Astarte stuck with the others.
"Look out for broken glass and stuff," Hector said.

N"Actually, I think we oughta look for a door."

*Nero walks around doing just that, as Vanessa pries herself from the bush. Nero finds a door behind some overgrowth, & turns off his flashlight, stowing it in favor of his knife. He beckons Euryale to hold the light steady so he can see to cut the branches. After a few seconds, he manages to saw off one.*

N"This could take a while, unless someone wants to help."

T"I'm not sure my scissors can get through those."

*As he's working, Vanessa jumps, hearing some frantic rustling & a loud scream in the forest behind her. The rustling continues for a few seconds, followed by another scream.*

Astarte had brandished her own small knife and was about to help Nero when the noise started, and instead she swung around to face it, holding the knife numbly by her side. Hector quickly moved between Astarte and the noise, shining his flashlight towards the rustling.

Taiyo's grip on Mimiru's arm tightens.

Azuma: "How about we opt for a quicker entrance through a window? Save the door for daylight."

*The beam washes over trees & fades into the dark. They then hear another scream. Euryale turns her beam towards it, but that doesn't help.*

N"Hey! Need light, here!"

*They hear frantic rustling, & another scream.*

"Don't worry, everybody," Stefan said, breaking a small, low-hanging branch off of a tree and walking towards the rustling. "It's probably a fox or something."
Eduj walked after him, sliding his keys between his fingers to increase the damage of a punch.

Azuma: "Yeah, a fox."

N"Oh, whatever."

*Nero abandons what he was doing & stomps over to where they saw the window, in frustration.

T"I think he's right, I think foxes scream."

*Meanwhile, Nero clears aside some branches, then turns to yell back.*

N"It's no good! It's even more blocked up than the door! Also really small."

Stefan reached a rustling bush and thrashed some leaves off, careful to do so above the height of a fox. Eduj and Hector continued to watch carefully and Astarte continued to look tired, frightened and slightly ill.

Azuma: "You know no one can really see to do anything about it. You're really just beating around the bush."

*The rustling & screaming continue, obviously coming from much deeper in the woods.*

"Well, there isn't much we can do about whatever it is, but I'm sure we'll be okay," Stefan said, turning back towards the cabin. Eduj continued to watch carefully, and Hector turned his flashlight back to the door of the cabin. Astarte continued to be tired and frightened.

Monu:<At this rate, we may be camping outside.>

*Cameron takes out his flashlight, and gives it to Tirea*

Cameron:<Wherever it is, I doubt it'll attack this large of a group.>

*Eve and Tirea go over to the cabin, using the flashlight to look around*

*They find that the wall with the door has a window on either side, the side walls have 3, and the back none. All of the windows are about the same size, while the walls themselves have been constructed from cheap plywood boards. There is no chimney.*

N"Alright, now let's get back to what I was doing."

*Nero continues cutting branches, while being serenaded every few seconds by another loud scream.*

Eve:<I wonder if we could break in.>

Tirea:<Maybe if we all work together.>

Eve:<If you're going to do what I think you are, be careful.>

*Tirea nods, then kicks the side of the house to see how strong the wood is. Meanwhile, Monu and Cameron approach the cabin*

Monu;<I suppose we'd need to set a watch up.>

Cameron:<Definitely if we have to sleep outside.>

Azuma: "Anyone think of just breaking a window and opening the door if they can reach it? Uncovering a window should marginally easier than a door."

*There's a thud & Tirea hurts her foot.*

N"Anyone think of how we're going to repair the window? Look, just help me out with this bush. Don't be so impatient, we have to think long-term, here."

*While Nero continues clipping, the rustling & screaming suddenly becomes more rapid.*

Eduj and Stefan tensed and faced the noise, while Astarte suddenly ran over to help Nero with her knife. Hector kept his light on the door so that they could work, but was anxious to see what was going on in the bushes.

Azuma: "No, I did not consider repairing the window of a dilapidated shed we had broken into. What I considered is a faster approach to entering said dilapidated shed."
