A Tale of Two Cities

Zell tensed, "Take him out?!" She said, "I don't want him dead, I just don't want him attacking people anymore. There is prison for a reason, I don't want to be someone's executioner." She continued, "Besides, I don't want to get back into a Megadeus just because. I only used one now because the eels were the most fucking frightening things I've ever seen." Zell finished.

L"You're REALLY boring."

T"Then we'll beat up his monsters & send him to jail. He MADE the eels, you know. He is, de facto, a bigger threat to you than all of them combined."

Barbatos<Yes. Yes, of course. Arrange a meeting with him and call me back. He should phone back within the next few hours.>

Zell wanted to retort to Lilith, but Thiera spoke up first. "Still, I'm not some kind of Megadeus fighter pilot. I paint, that is it, I don't go beat up monsters and send people to jail."

"Why don't I just ring him back?" Luna mumbled, "I DO have caller i.d... who doesn't?"
She then picked up her other phone and dialed the number that had called her before.

L"If you pilot a Megadeus, that makes you a Megadeus pilot."

"Fuck that" Luna put the other phone down and returned to speaking with Barbatos, "The phone 'can't be reached'. I guess I'll have to wait. By the way, who the fuck are you?"

*Hitomi's phone rings again.*

*Luna's phone rings.*

<Aren't you going to get that?>

Luna picks up the phone, "Hello? Is this the kidnapper?"

*Hitomi lets out an exasperate sigh and puts her book down so she can answer the phone.*

<Beck. The name's Beck. You can meet us at the worf at 6, 2 days from now. That should give you plenty of time to collect the money.>

Vera<We believe ze assassin iz the doctor, Aamon. Furthermore, we suzpect he is 'iding in ze city's underground. We want you to find him, and bring him back alive. We 'ave a lot of questions for 'im.>

"Understood."

*She takes her brother inside, takes half of the fridge's content to his room, and tells that he stays there until further notice. She then leaves looking for Roger or Beck, whoever she finds first.*

"That was a one time deal." Zell replied, "I don't plan on getting in the pilot's seat of a Megadeus again, unless I absolutely have to; like I did just a few minutes ago." Zell shrugged, "Besides, you're actually great at using yours. I would only get in your way, and slow you down, or worse."

T"If it weren't for the lasers, we wouldn't have been able to defeat the tree-monster."

L"More importantly, I think you are in denial of the fact that you were obviously meant to pilot it."

*As Roger is right in the living room, she finds him first.*

*Vera hangs up.*

*Hitomi hangs up and leaves heading for the hangar.*

"How can someone be MEANT to pilot a megadeus. It is a weapon, I am no more meant for it than I am meant to wield a gun or sword." Zell said with a sigh, "I appreciate the grattitude, but it was sheer dumb luck, I was just trying to survive. I don't think I would ever be able to do what I did down there if I was trying."

L"Shut up, human. You don't know anything about how a Megadeus works."

*Thiera looks at Lilith curiously.*

T"Well...it's blunt, but it's true. We have plenty of reason to believe that Megadeuses have connections to certain people. We just don't know how it works, because our memories have been lost."

Zell looked visibly insulted and a little hurt, "I'm... sorry." She said, feeling like she had just been scolded. "But, isn't that kind of my point. I don't know anything about how a megadeus works, connection or not." She finished, her voice a bit more subdued, and more pleading, than argumentative, not wanting Lilith to tell her to 'shut up' again.

T"You can't fight an entire battle out of sheer dumb luck. It is statistically impossible. At some level, you must have known what the controls did. There is just no other way."

*She pulls out her gun.*

T"Imagine that the trigger is one of the controls of the Megadeus. You may have hit 30 control combinations during that entire fight. Yet you never lost your balance, used the wrong attack, or hit the wrong target. It's simply impossible, from random chance, that you didn't shoot yourself in the foot. So to speak."

"Okay." Luna agreed and went back to speaking with Barbatos, "I need 10 thousand bucks at the wharf in 2 days by 6."

Zell nodded, "Yea, I guess..." She said weakly, entirely done with the conversation, and still a bit sad. "Can I just go to my room?" She asked, "I'd like to... I don't, sleep? Maybe."

<I'll bring it with me on that day.>

T"I don't see why not. Lilith, would you mind helping me with the repairs?"

L"Not at all."

Zell nodded and walked off to her room. When she got there she collapsed onto her bed, hiding her face in her pillow. Between Lilith and the fucking eels, Zell wasn't having a good day whatsoever. After a few minutes of trying not to think about the things that were bothering her, Zell fell into a soft sleep.

*After acquiring the Megadeus, Hitomi heads to the underground somehow. Probably via a large hole as there's gotta be one on almost every block.*

*The tunnels seem silent, until she spots a 3 foot rat with tentacles running out of a side passage.*
