I was just thinking about how many women I know in anime, and now I have this question-

Who are some of the most badass women in anime you've seen?

For me it'd have to be: Haruko (FLCL), Neliel (Bleach), Soi Fon (Bleach), Yoruichi (Bleach), Re L Mayar (Ergo Proxy), Oliver Armstrong (FMA), Hawkeye (FMA), Lan Fan (FMA), Hallibel (Bleach), Lucy (Elfen Lied) and probably some more...

And Neo, your NGE list amazingly does not include Misato.

It probably should. I'd forgotten the scene in the movie where she mows down all of those enemy soldiers without mercy.

I've seen Cowboy Bebop & Ghost in the Shell, but I can't say those characters ever really stood out to me.

And the part in 2.0 where she basically says, "I do what I want," to Ritsuko and saves Japan.

Faye seemed like a pretty well-rounded person to me. She could fly well, stood up for herself, and used a gun well.

Kusanagi was invisible. And naked. That counts. And did you watch the Ghost in the Shell movie or TV Show? She was much more badass in the original.

TV show. I just didn't like Ghost in the Shell, I found the whole thing rather nonsensical. According to the pretentious, I didn't get it because it was too DEEP.

As for Faye, I'm not big on anyone in Cowboy Bebop. I also draw a distinction between "competent" & "badass."

Teresa (Claymore), along with Miria, also from claymore.

Other than that, well, Bayonetta, I guess. There are many more 'badass' anime females that I appreciate but those are my majors.

I apologize, she is pretty awesome. Although then I must add Riful and...my favourite of all time, Galatea. Just look at her fighting dauf.

They're pretty cool too, but Deneve can have all of my babies (if I wasn't positive she wanted Helen's walk-in penis).

Since I'm actually talking now I guess I should give a short list of my own, one from each anime.

Claymore- Deneve
Bleach- Soi Fon
Noir- Kirika
Elfen Lied- Lucy
Ghost in the Shell (Stand Alone Complex, and Second Gig)- The Major
Neon Genesis Evangelion- Asuka (when she isn't being cummed on in her sleep)

Pretty sure Shinji just did it in his hand. Which is only moderately less creepy.
