| Script, shallow & pedantic are easily reconcilable. "Shallow" only means "not deep," in this case as in meaning. "Pedantic" means an overuse of linguistics to describe a trivial technicality. So, really, all pedantry is shallow.
As far as this really dumb argument goes, it is kind of stupid to use the British Empire in one breath and then in the next describe how the US isn't great at spreading its political ideologies. Um, hi, remember how the British Empire fell in the first place? There's also the fact that the US isn't a true empire. Probably because empires have a bad habit of collapsing like a stack of cards.
Not to mention that all of that is completely irrelevent to the issue. It's like the idiots in the south that call cicadas "locusts." It doesn't fucking matter if it's some inane regional tradition, they are cicadas, locusts don't even live on the damn continent.

How do you pronounce this? I've always said "sick-ay-das", but people tell me it's meant to be "sick-ar-dars". Who's right?

| "Sick-ar-dars"?
No combination of letters in cicadas sounds anything like an r.

| OMG. Sick AIDS plus an A.
In all seriousness though, I'm pretty sure it's pronounced "sick-ay-das".

| It's Sik-Ay-Dah. At least, that's how I say it. And Wikipedia is great, but I don't use it anymore because it leads to me being frowned upon by the "higher ups". | |

I guess one can die from anorexia, but are you sure that was what you got? I mean, only because one doesn't eat much and is skinny, it's not necessarily because one got some eating disorder.

Yeah, I had an eating disorder, diagnosed by a doctor. However, my parents weren't being the most positive people in the world when they told me I could die, because in actuality, It would have actually taken a few more months for it to actually kill me.

| If my daughter was a few months away from death I'd err on the side of caution and scare her into eating too. | |

| But you have to imagine how creepy it would be to hear your parents tell you you're going to die. I guess it WOULD scare you into eating, though. | |

| Somehow, I doubt it works that way. What you want to do is talk to a shrink.
Also, Department of Redundancy Department.

| I can't speak for you parents, but I would be scared as hell for my daughter. I don't care if she thought I was being insensitive, or a bit creepy, I would do what I thought would get her to live. | |

| Oh no, being told you're going to die.
I was told the only reason I wasn't aborted was because my mom couldn't get a ride to the city where the clinic is.

And then she kills herself. This is kind of my point. If you overreact, & do the wrong thing, you only make the problem worse.

Moral of the story, Potter, don't kill yourself.
