And it always bugs me when people say "they could just fly there", because they actually couldn't. It would have been a billion times more simple for the eye to see the birds coming and the Nazgul (led by the Witch King, absolute badass who owned the shit out of Gandalf in the third movie) would have stopped them.
Also, he didn't have an army waiting to stop the hobbits as soon as they got in because he never found out they wanted to destroy it until the end.

Also, before you go ahead and say the witch king isn't a badass because he can be killed only by women, that's not true. He was stabbed in the ankle by a blade meant to dispatch Nazgul just before she stabbed him in the face.

That is a stupid argument. They're almost killed by Captain Eyeball's forces about a dozen times right when they step outside. They could have avoided all of that shit if they weren't on the ground in the first place. Because A they'd be going much faster & B they could avoid 99.8% of the army.

Literally all they have to do is drop a ring into a volcano. That's an operation that calls for a quick entrance, not the elf's bow, the dwarf's axe, & the wizard's dick.

Oh, & let's not forget that it isn't long before they learn that the Nazgalazabaz have been dispatched to capture them. They should have taken off right then & there. The Nazzylazzydingdong can't kill them until they can find some shit that flies even faster, & they're cut off from their main supply line.

You can tell me, with a straight fucking face, that Captain Eyeball had no time to mobilize an army to defend himself in the books, but he would TOTALLY be able to do it in a situation where the midgets were speeding right to his base & his generals were out in the middle of fucking nowhere half a world away?

Staying on ground, taking weeks to walk to this stupid mountain range, which they don't even know if they can get past, in part because they're too busy sitting through an inane description of it, is literally the stupidest plan they could possibly have.

By the way, the reason the Bitch King isn't a badass is because he's bitch-lackey to the worst damn villain ever. How stupid do you have to be to be trying to take over the world & not assume that people are trying to kill you through the one circuitous method of killing you?

Yamamoto & MAYBE Unohana as far as I can tell, but I'm sure he had a good idea of who that rescue/invasion team would contain, based on who needed rescuing.
