I wasn't whining, I think the most whining I did was complain about the penguin because it was fucking retarded and came out of no where. I do agree with Seraph though, Shinji being a chump is annoying, him being about 4 is also annoying, but it is a shonen, I've come to expect this kind of thing.

The ending was nothing special. It was just extended, as I recall.

Script, the entire point is that Shinji isn't heroic. It does annoy most people, but it is what it is.

That and the director pretty much admitted the reason the original was the way it was is because he was suicidally depressed and Re:build was the way it was suppose to be.

No. No it wasn't. It's true he was depressed, but he never said anything about it being "done wrong." Myths about Eva's production, don't believe them.

I liked Shinji better in the original. It was fun to hate him, and more easy to do so when he was whiny and useless.

Its not that he isn't heroic that turns me away from him, it is the fact that he is whining while doing it. If you're met with hardship you don't have to face it head on like a boss, but there are better ways to be "not heroic" that doesn't come down to crying like a girl. Also, fucking spoilers you cock munching fucker.

Once again, I think you're missing the point.

Maybe I am, I'm not far into the story. That said, I'm far enough to know that a little boy whining about his lot in the story isn't all that fun, or interesting. There are plenty of ways to be unheroic, don't take the call to action, but do so without whining; don't self-sacrifice, but don't be a bitch about it.

And Shinji doesn't do those things because he's a maladjusted weirdo. Also, remember how I said much of what the characters do is deconstruction? Look at virtually every other Shonen protagonist. Ichigo, Naruto (pre timeskip), Kenshin, Goku, they're ALL about toughing out the hard times & being as manly as their girlish good looks will possibly allow.

I understand that much but the opposite of Goku doesn't have to be a whiny brat. It could simply be someone who is all, "lolno, fuck that noise." Considering the very little I know of the story it'd actually work too.

Implying the copious amounts of homolust weren't the best part of the series.

Yeah, 'cause that's totally what someone who's looking for their fathers approval would do, right?

1. Then you'd have no story.
2. That's not the opposite, that's Vegeta.

Not everyone with father issues looks for their approval. Once again, this may be because I don't know enough of the story, but anecdotal proof says that sometimes when your father is a dick to you, and abandons you, you don't seek his approval, you just tell him to fuck off and sever any remaining ties.

As 2.22 shows where he takes his fathers advice an defeats Zeruel all by himself. None of that terrifying as all Hell beserk Unit-01 shit.

Shinji has a whole slew of mental problems. That's basically what you need to know.

Vegeta probably wanted to keep hearing him approve. Vegeta had a lot of issues, even after he became a father. Especially after he became a father.
